Digital retouching for photographers.

How to digitally enhance a building

The building on the left was photographed for Bowker Sadler Architects on behalf of the Johnnie Johnson Housing Association and is a converted and refurbished Salvation Army Citadel. The site was northeast facing and was on a narrow and very busy street, and had vehicles parked outside on every visit I made to try and shoot the photography. After several abortive trips I managed to photograph the building on a Saturday morning and used a high set of stepladders to get some height. There was a trailer parked at the front, several lamp posts and street signs, a large banner on the building and some metal fencing on the left of the building.

I shot two views straight on and digitally cloned details from one of the images on to the other to remove the lamp post. The image was then distorted to correct the converging verticals and create correct perspective. The parked trailer and the metal fencing were cloned out and bricks and slabs added.
