Interior church photography of Mottram Church Mottram in Longendale

Interior architectural photography of Mottram Church

The present church of St Michaels and all Angels dates from the end of 15th century and in 1855 the church underwent a major restoration under the direction of local architect E.H. Shellard, during which the height of the nave roof was raised, allowing for more impressive stained galss windows to be installed. As with all period, high-roofed buildings, much extra flash lighting has to be added to get good architectural photographs where all the ornate original features can be clearly made out. There were several dedicated flash units concealed in various places around the church.

This series of interior photographs of the church was shot for Christmas Card use, and on close inspection the Christmas Star can be seen along with all the illuminated candles in the choristry, which are only lit during the Carol services. I chose to photograph this interior view during daylight hours so that the beautiful stained glass window was very much a feature of the photograph.
