Architectural exteriors of Carmel College, St Helens Merseyside
Photography of new buildings at Carmel Further Education college, St Helens
These pictures were from a series of interior and exterior photographs of two new buildings at Carmel College, St Helens commissioned by Kier North West, the construction company and designed by Ryder Architecture of Newcastle Upon Tyne. The science and lecture theatre block comprised clean lines, white render and photographed very well. It was very modern and functional with break out areas and IT access areas at various points on each of three floors.
The Art block was funky and contemporary with a large expanse of window for natural light and two corrugated steel end blocks which looked very futurisitic. The only problem to perplex the poor architectural photographer was that the building itself was in very close proximity to an older building opposite and made photography very difficult as I was to get far enough back to photograph the whole area. The corrugated steel finish photographed well when the sun was shining directly on to it.
This final image of the rear elevation of the Art Block won me a silver award in the British Institute of Professional Photography NW Region annual Gala Awards Competition. More competition images here.
