Architectural images of Black Box Arts Studio in Kendal
The Kendal College 'Black Box' Technical Studio is a quirky new project designed by Cheadle architects Taylor Young Partnership, for use as a performing arts studio for the Drama students. We were commissioned to photograph this impressive and stylish new building by Taylor Young for publicity, website use and possible awards submissions.
The Technical Studio has been designed as a contemporary structure using local materials to reflect the history of the area and the whole structure is attractively clad in natural slate.
The twisted cubic form of the studio has been designed to reflect the local topography of the site and lends itself to interesting architectural imagery and the dramatic curve is picked up well by the slate cladding. One difficulty experienced whilst shooting the photographs was the tight space within which the building was shoehorned, which made long shots very challenging!
The £1.3m purpose-built performance space seats up to 120 people and provides performing arts and technical theatre students with a dedicated, professional theatre space.
