Industrial photography of propping of listed building facade.

Industrial photography of facade retention

This photograph was commissioned by Mabey Hire Ltd who supply heavy duty propping equipment for the construction industry. The photography session documents the arrival of the retention system, and was taken at night whilst the road was closed to allow for heavy cranes being used to set the equipment in place.

Industrial photography of this type, particularly when shot at night, requires a lot of extra lighting over a large area and when I arrived to take the photographs, there was scant additional lighting supplied, a couple of fluorescent lamps on stands and the orange light from the street lamps. I concealed three additional hand flash guns within the image area to lift the light levels and the photograph here illustrates the three different type of lighting, fluorescent, flash and street lamps. The effect of this mixed bag of lighting enhances the photograph and gives it 'gritty realism'!
