This photograph of the iconic No 1 Deansgate was undertaken for Mero Schmidlin UK who had supplied the glazed facade for the building which towers up in the centre of Manchester. The building is very attractive but presents a challenge to the architectural photographer as it is difficult to stand far enough back to get a full view without distortion. There is also the added complication that it is set on one of the busiest roads in Manchester and the poor photographer risks getting mown down whilst taking any photographs.

The building photographs best on a sunny day with plenty of white clouds to reflect in all the glass. The building is mostly residential with elegant apartments and duplexes, each with their own glazed balcony, and the upper floors have spectacular views over the city centre and beyond.
