Architectural Photography Snow Hill Tower Block, Birmingham
This photograph is of No 1 Snow Hill - of a most impressive new office block in Birmingham, the photography being commissioned by client Kierbuild. Internally it is fitted out with polished wood and marble and has the echoey feel of an elegant museum, with a vast central atrium acting as a giant lightwell for natural illumination.
Although the building faces south, due to its proximity to other local tall office buildings it needs to be shot as near to Mid summer as possible. When I first went to photograph Snow Hill Plaza, it was December and despite choosing the optimum time for photography, the results were disappointing due to harsh shadows across the front. The return visit in June, produces much more pleasing results.
The night time exterior photograph was shot at dusk, being the optimum time for night images, and has the
'comet tails' of cars tail lights from a time exposure. A tripod is essential for anybody contemplating this kind
of photography.
Creative detail of the glass cladding.
